In its second home game of the 2014 season, the Stony Brook University Men’s Soccer team tied 0-0 against Fairleigh Dickinson University after failing to score in double overtime on Monday, Sept. 8, 2014. The Seawolves entered the match coming off their 3-0 home opener win against the Lehigh Mountain Hawks on Friday, Sept. 5, 2014.
Stony Brook’s number 7, junior midfielder Martin Giordano (Weston, Fla.), entered the match after scoring his first goal of the season against Lehigh.
Giordano created two chances to score for the Seawolves during the match, one of which was denied by FDU’s keeper, Matthew Weigner.
Junior Alejandro Fritz (Budapest, Hungary) also helped create a few chances for Stony Brook but after 110 minutes, both teams walked away without any goals.
Freshman midfielder Thibault Duval (Grace Hollogne, Belgium) got his fourth start in four matches against FDU.
In the second half, Fritz delivered the ball to Giordano, whose header went just wide of the net.
A free kick by Duval offered the Seawolves an opportunity to break the tie but hit the wall.
A group of Stony Brook fans cheered the Seawolves on for all 110 minutes, sitting just two rows behind the home bench.
Redshirt freshman midfielder Dario Vanegas (Miami, Fla.) came off the bench in the second half and had his own chances to score.
Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Tom MacMahon (Nassau Bay, Texas) denied FDU on several occasions and achieved his second clean sheet of the season.
